
ATHLONE TOWN chairman John Hayden has emerged as a late candidate for a place on the FAI board.
The First Division club confirmed to Independent.ie that Hayden would be running for one of the two places available to representatives of the league.
A club spokesman said that 'few in Irish football has fought with the FAI incumbents longer or harder than John Hayden.'
Dodie McGuinness (Derry City), Martin Heraghty (Sligo Rovers), Dick Shakespeare (UCD), Peadar Ryan (Galway United) and Seán Ó Conaill(Cork City) are the other nominees.
League of Ireland delegates have been invited to a meeting on Saturday morning ahead of the FAI AGM.
