Brothers Rory and Ronan Hale both got on the scoresheet as Republic of Ireland Under-21s beat their counterparts from Iceland 3-1 at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday.

Rory Hale put the hosts ahead after just 15 seconds of the friendly as he collected the ball from Derry team-mate Ronan Curtis, turned and slotted in.

The advantage was then doubled in the 40th minute when Curtis fed Ryan Manning and the QPR man sent a rising shot into the net.

Stefan Ljubicic pulled a goal back midway through the second half, before Ronan Hale, who is on loan at Derry from Birmingham, wrapped things up late on.

Noel King's side are back in action on Tuesday when they host Azerbaijan in a Euro 2019 qualifier. The Republic sit in third place in Group 5, five points behind leaders Germany with a game in hand, while Azerbaijan are bottom.
