"We just let ourselves down." That was the simple but devastating verdict of James McClean after Ireland's dream of playing at next summer's World Cup was torn apart by a dominant Denmark display.

"I am just devastated, not just for us, but for everyone, it's been a long campaign," said McClean after a humbling 5-1 defeat in the Lansdowne Road play-off.

The Derryman's dejection was mirrored by his fellow players as they crumbled to the ground following Ireland's World Cup heartache.
