Erik Lamela, Tottenham's club-record signing, could be out until April after head coach Tim Sherwood revealed he expected him to be on the sidelines for at least another six weeks.
Lamela has suffered a nightmare spell at White Hart Lane following his £30m (€36m) move from Roma last summer. Big things were expected from the Argentine youngster, but he has started only three Premier League games and has been struggling with a thigh problem.
The 21-year-old has now picked up a back injury in his attempt to make a speedy recovery and looks to be facing a lengthy spell in the Tottenham treatment room.
Meanwhile, Sherwood has hit back at claims from Ajax coach Frank de Boer and Holland coach Louis van Gaal that they want to manage the north London club in the future.
Sherwood said: "Obviously they are not happy with the jobs they are doing if they are touting themselves for the Tottenham job.
"It's natural I suppose, it's a big job, but I don't think I would ever tout myself about for a job when someone was already in the hot seat. I don't even know if top four gets me the job." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
