Ibrahimovic double sees off Faroes
Sweden 2, Faroe Islands 0
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored both goals as Sweden leap-frogged Ireland into third position in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Sweden captain opened the scoring in the 35th minute after the Faroes failed to clear Mikael Lustig's cross. The hosts squandered several chances before Ibrahimovic converted a penalty in the 82nd minute to ease any nerves. The goal came two minutes after Sweden were reduced to 10 men – Andreas Granqvist marching for retaliating against Frodi Benjaminsen.
Sweden move up to third in the group, level on 11 points with second-placed Austria and fourth-placed Ireland. Austria's goal difference is plus-10 with Sweden on plus-four, two ahead of Giovanni Trapattoni's men.
In Group B, Armenia all but ended Denmark's hopes of qualification with a stunning 4-0 win in Copenhagen.
