Hunt a free agent as Wolves deal expires

STEPHEN HUNT is on the look out for a new club after being released by Wolves. The 31-year-old was one of the highest earners at Molineux, signing for £35,000 a week when he joined from Hull City in 2010.

He has suffered the pain of back-to-back relegations, although injuries hindered his participation. Manager Dean Saunders had suggested he would offer him a new deal before being shown the door after they dropped to League One.

Hunt should have no difficulty attracting suitors after being one of the few to emerge with credit from the final weeks of the season, although it is likely that he will have to take a paycut. The Wolves hierarchy, who are still looking for a new boss, have chosen to extend the stay of Irish U-21 goalkeeper Aaron McCarey.

Team-mate Kevin Doyle is still under contract and likely to leave this summer, with Celtic monitoring his situation after failing to sign the Wexford native on loan in January.

* SHAMROCK ROVERS will welcome Aston Villa to Tallaght Stadium for a friendly on Sunday, August 4.
