Liverpool's Premier League clash with Sunderland at Anfield saw Reds captain Jordan Henderson come up against his former club.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at how the midfielder fared as his side won 2-0.

Henderson got a well-deserved round of applause for an excellent tackle midway through the first half that took the ball off Didier Ndong, and rarely looked anything other than composed when positioned just in front of the back four - although this was a contest in which Liverpool did not really have much defending to do.

Henderson's contributions in attack during a frustrating first half for the hosts saw him produce two decent deliveries that his team-mates could not make the most of, with a free-kick being headed wide by Dejan Lovren and Emre Can failing to make proper connection with a corner.

After the break, Henderson himself was guilty of misjudgement as he over-hit a couple of attempted through-balls, and he also had a shot blocked before curling a free-kick over the bar.

It was then his pass that Divock Origi collected before firing into the corner of the net to break the deadlock in the 75th minute.

Played his part as Liverpool got the job done in the end, and can reflect upon what was ultimately a creditable display.
