Hoolahan and Pilkington shine
Pilkington demonstrated his skill to telling effect on the counter-attack and the former Huddersfield Town left-sided player also provided glimpses of his set-piece potential.
Hoolahan, who had endured a frustrating start to the campaign as a result of manager Chris Hughton's decision to use him sparingly, was cool and composed as he picked out passes with pin-point precision.
Goalscorer Grant Holt was thrilled with how Pilkington and Hoolahan influenced the game.
"I thought Anthony and Wes were fantastic going forward," he said. "It's easy to see why Wes is the supporters' favourite player."
Following his lengthy talks with FAI chief executive John Delaney, Trapattoni has promised to attend matches in England on a more regular basis, and several more fringe players can expect to be checked out in the coming weeks.
