Heroin does for Trap's villain ref

The referee that Giovanni Trapattoni accused of robbing Italy of a place in the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals faces up to 20 years in prison when he's sentenced for drug smuggling in New York next month.

Moreno was arrested last year at Kennedy Airport after arriving on a commercial flight from his native Ecuador and was discovered to have bags of heroin attached to his body during a routine search.

Moreno became public enemy No 1 in Italy after several contentious decisions contributed to their shock exit against to South Korea in 2002.

"I wasn't entirely surprised," confessed Trapattoni after the news of his arrest last year. "It confirms more or less everything I thought about him at the time of that World Cup."
