Harry Kane admits Tottenham must prove they can get over the finishing line
Harry Kane has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur must prove they can get over the finishing line and win a trophy.
Having reduced the gap at the top of the Premier League table to four points, Tottenham failed to beat leaders Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
Kane and Dele Alli both scored as Tottenham twice came from behind at Wembley, but Chelsea eventually reached the final with a 4-2 success.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino still believes his side, who face Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, can fight for the title. But Kane concedes that, following last season’s collapse, Tottenham must now show they can last the pace.
“We were the better team against Chelsea, but, for one reason or another, we didn't get over the finish line,” said Kane. “That's what we have got to try to do. I don't think there's an easy answer to it. It comes over a period of time. We have got six tough games ahead of us in the Premier League and focus on them and see how high we finish.
“A lot of people will be looking at us now waiting to see what will happen and has the momentum kind of stopped a bit, but we are focused. We want to finish strong in the League and learn from what happened last year. The only way we can do that is starting with a win on Wednesday. It’s one game at a time, not long left and we have to give it everything.
“We can't control what Chelsea do. They will obviously be buzzing from this game, but it doesn't always mean you are going to win every other game you play.
“We just to have win our games. We wanted to win this one to keep our momentum going and weren't really too focused on Chelsea. We will see what happens and keep fighting hard. They know they still have a job to do in the League but so have we.
“Hopefully, this is just a blip in what's been a great season so far. It’s a tough game, Palace away, they've been on a great run recently and it's not easy, but we will fight until the end.”
Pochettino added: “I am confident we will fight till the end of the season. For now it is hard to offer consolation to you, the fans and the players because it is hard to lose in a semi-final but we need to move on and try to prepare for the next game and be as strong.
“For the rest of the season, nothing changes. The team are showing unbelievable performances and playing well. It is a big disappointment, but I will change absolutely nothing.”
