Members of the press were given a shock when they took on Manchester City’s office staff in an end-of-season charity match as the Premier League winners unleashed a secret weapon – Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola, a Champions League winner with Barcelona during a glittering player career and the architect of City’s title success, made a surprise cameo from the bench at the Etihad Stadium.

Former City striker Paul Dickov, who is now a club ambassador, was also involved as City celebrated their stunning season with those to have covered them closely.

Guardiola – one of the most cultured midfielders of his generation – was comfortably the most decorated player on the field.

He was in no mood to rub it in, though, stroking the ball around and rarely getting forward, before leaving after posing for photographs.

His side did come from 3-0 down to secure a 5-4 win, though.
