Given looks set to see out season with Boro
Middlesbrough will move today to finalise a deal to keep Shay Given until the end of this season.
With his current loan spell ending next month, Given has until midnight tomorrow to sort out the terms which would see him stay at the Riverside for the remainder of this campaign.
Middlesbrough's manager, Aitor Karanka, has made it clear he wants Given to stay and has also been in discussions with Wolves about adding Kevin Doyle to his ranks.
However, Doyle's wages have proven a stumbling block as Karanka explores other options – Billy Sharp, Adam Le Fondre and Luciano Becchio.
Robbie Keane, meanwhile, expressed his confidence that he will be fit in time for Ireland's friendly international against Serbia in March.
After spending the winter recovering from an Achilles operation, Keane confirmed yesterday that his recovery is on course for the start of the LA Galaxy's new season, and the third international of the O'Neill regime.
"Things have been going very well," said Keane. "The operations were successful. I had both of them done and I've been okay."
"Over the last six weeks, I had a lot of rehab, running in the pool to strengthen the Achilles. I did a few jogs last week and one (on Tuesday). So far, so good."
