Gaynor adds to Drogs' woe

Drogheda United 1
Dundalk 3

Dundalk nudged their Louth neighbours ever closer to the precipice last night as Drogheda's dismal run of form continued apace amid a deluge at Hunky Dorys Park.

With six losses from their last seven now for the Boynesiders, and with Bray re-awakened under Pat Devlin's stewardship, the signs are looking ominous for Brian Donnelly's team.

To compound their miserable night, Glen Fitzpatrick was shown a straight red under dubious circumstances and may face further punishment after he appeared to throw the ball at referee Damien Hancock.

Despite a lively start by the home side, Dundalk opened the scoring on 16 minutes when Ross Gaynor smashed home a superb effort from the edge of the box. The Lilywhites extended their lead in the 24th minute with Faz Kuduzovic feeding Matthew Tipton who finished easily past Robert Duggan.

Darren Meenan offered some brief hope for the home fans with his 57th- minute strike, but Kuduzovic cancelled it out with a close-range effort three minutes from time.

Drogheda -- Duggan, McGill (McGill 83), McNally, Haro, Osbourne; Meenan, Daly, Sinnott (McMahon 87), Brennan; Fitzpatrick, Flood.

Dundalk -- Cherrie, Madden, Breen (McGuigan 77), Hatswell, Kelly; Kearns (McDonnell 70), Bennett, Miller, Gaynor; Tipton (Lennon 81), Kuduzovic.

Ref -- D Hancock (Dublin).
