Former Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo has said he is ‘almost happy’ to see Gary Neville struggle in his first management job at Valencia.

The 40-year-old is currently the head coach of Serie B side Modena but was presumably subject to criticism by Neville during his playing career, which included spells at Lazio, Inter Milan and Genoa.

“To watch a game from the TV, it’s much different than from the bench,” Crespo explained to FOX Sports.

“I’m almost happy for Gary Neville’s troubles at Valencia. I remember he was too harsh as a TV pundit!”

Meanwhile Neville has refused to admit his side are in a relegation battle as pressure grows on the former Manchester United full-back in Spain.

Speaking in a press conference, shown on Valencia's official website, Neville said: “I know when we play games like that it can turn around very quick.

“It has to turn around on Saturday. We have to win this match on Saturday, that's the pressure I'm putting on myself and the expectation of everybody - we have to win on Saturday.”

When dropping into the second tier was mentioned, Neville said: “I'm not even considering that.

“I know the situation we're in. I'm desperate to turn these results around. I will turn these results around.”
