Maarten Stekelenburg looks set to join Fulham

Fulham are closing in on Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg with Mark Schwarzer's future at Craven Cottage looking increasingly uncertain.

Franco Baldini, the Serie A club's sporting director, has revealed that a deal has been struck with the Cottagers for 30-year-old Dutch stopper Stekelenburg.

"I went to London for the sale of Stekelenburg at Fulham," Baldini told Corriere dello Sport. "There were questions to be answered, but I closed a deal subject to the usual conditions."

Fulham manager Martin Jol has moved for Stekelenburg as negotiations to extend Schwarzer's five-year stay in south-west London stalled.

The Australian, who nearly joined Arsenal in 2010, admits he could be playing elsewhere next season.

"There's no new developments, there's no new discussions, there's no nothing. I'm confident my club situation will resolve itself one way or another," he said.

"Something will be sorted out - I've got no worries about that. I've got no idea at this stage where I'm going to be. I'm open to anything."
