Freedom of city on way to soccer legend Quinn
FORMER Irish international, manager and keen racehorse owner Niall Quinn will be given the freedom of Sunderland.
Before getting involved as manager and Chief executive for Sunderland AFC, Quinn finished his playing career there in 2002 and donated all the proceeds of his testimonial to children's hospitals in Sunderland, Crumlin and India.
"Niall has done a massive, massive amount in this city for children and young people," said Sunderland Councillor Pat Smith.
"There are many times on a Friday evening, even when he had a match on the Saturday, that we would come along to the Seaburn Centre to talk to children who were meeting there."
The former Manchester City and Arsenal star has raised over £1m (€1.18m) for charity.
