Norwich City have shown their faith in Irish prospect Simon Power by awarding him a new two-year contract before sending him to Holland on loan.
The former UCD player has been at Carrow Road for 12 months but his current deal was due to run out at the end of this season.
Now the Canaries have agreed a two-year deal but he will spend the next six months with Dutch second tier side Dordrecht in a loan move.
“I’m excited to learn about the Dutch way of playing. I think it can only benefit my game. The next few months should be very exciting,” Power said.
“Dordrecht normally have around 4,000 fans for each home game so it will be a different but good experience to play in front of so many people.
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal. I only signed an 18-month contract last year so I was under a bit of pressure to prove myself.
“I suppose I’m a bit relieved to have signed the new deal and I’m really looking forward to the future now.”
Norwich hope to complete the signing of Drogheda United man William Hondermarck this week after a successful trial.
