James McCarthy will travel to Dublin to be assessed by FAI doctors ahead of Friday night’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland but Marc Wilson is definitely ruled out.

McCarthy hurt his hamstring, the same one which kept him out of the 1-1 draw in Germany, against Sunderland yesterday.

"It is a bit of a concern because he had the same injury a few weeks back against Manchester United and it is exactly the same area," said his club boss Roberto Martinez.

"We hope it is more fatigue than a soft-tissue problem. We'll assess him in the morning and hope he's fully fit so he can join them."

O’Neill today confirmed his 27-man squad for this Friday’s match and the friendly with the USA next Tuesday in the Aviva Stadium.

The squad sees the inclusion of both Derby defender Cyrus Christie and Ipswich striker David McGoldrick after their documentation was finalised last week.
