THE surprise comeback of Richard Dunne was the good news story of the weekend for Giovanni Trapattoni, but Darron Gibson was withdrawn through injury in Everton's thrashing of Fulham, writes Daniel McDonnell.
Dunne came through Aston Villa's scoreless draw at West Brom unscathed after telling his manager Alex McLeish he was ready to make a contribution. The point earned could be significant.
"When Richard volunteered for duty, we bit his hand off," said McLeish. "He produced a wonderful performance. He headed everything, he read the play, he calmed the players down."
Gibson came off at half-time at Goodison Park, with Everton well on the way to victory. Trapattoni is waiting for clarification on the nature of the Derry man's problem.
Keith Fahey missed Birmingham's clash with Reading due to his ongoing groin injury. Chris Hughton wants Fahey to be fit for the play-offs and the Blues had already secured their place.
