It really was the perfect start to Euro 2016.

Not only did we get a thoroughly exciting opener between France and Romania - decided by a late screamer from Dimitri Payet - but the tournament also was given the added bonus of the host team getting off to a strong start.

There were some promising signs in the TV studios too. RTÉ went went Didi Hamann, Liam Brady and a predictably forthright Eamon Dunphy, while ITV opted for a solid trio of Lee Dixon, Emmanuel Petit and Slaven Bilic.

The West Ham manager is always interesting in his post-match interviews and his colourful personality appears to have translated brilliantly to punditry.

When describing what Hugo Lloris might have said to his defenders after a shaky first half from France, he let slip a four letter word. Rather than offer a Dunphy-style apology into the camera, Bilic just powered through as if it was the most normal utterance in the world, thus already becoming one of the most watchable pundits at Euro 2016.
