Tom Rooney

Carrying on the great tradition of sonorous Irish fandom, the travelling Green Army serenaded the most romantic city in the world on Sunday night and brought the Parisian traffic to a grinding halt in the process.

While so many of the alleged fans that arrived in France over the last week have preoccupied themselves with violence and destruction, Ireland supporters gave us a timely reminder about the true celebratory manner occasions such as the European Championships should be enjoyed.

With Ireland’s opening game against Sweden tomorrow, seemingly all of the near 100k Irish fans thought to have made the journey to the French capital for the match gathered outside one of its most famous landmarks.

Amid the coruscating fluorescence emanating from the Moulin Rouge, the unmistakable backdrop of Olé, Olé, Olé filled the night.
