If you are a Republic of Ireland football fan looking to follow the team at this summer's European Championships, then your Friday has just gotten even better.

The FAI today announced that an additional 773 tickets have been acquired for Irish fans for the three group games against Sweden, Belgium and Italy at Euro 2016.

Over 275,000 ticket applications were made by Irish fans when the ticket portal was first opened but many loyal supporters were left unhappy due to the limited supply.

However, in a statement this afternoon, the FAI confirmed that they successfully lobbied UEFA for more tickets, to add to the 7,334 extra tickets they secured for supporters since January.

The Association also explained how the tickets will be distributed.

"A Ticket Appeals Portal was set up to identify the most loyal supporters who were left without tickets following UEFA's initial allocation process and the FAI were able to cater for many of the most resolute Ireland supporters through that," the statement said.

"The latest batch of tickets will be distributed directly to those loyal supporters who missed out on the Ticket Appeals Portal. There will be no appeal process for these tickets."
