Poll: Pick your ultimate Irish tournament team?

McGrath and Moran? McCarthy and McGrath? O'Shea and O’Leary? We haven’t even mentioned Richard Dunne yet. If you had to choose Ireland’s best centre-half partnership from the five tournaments we have qualified for, who would you go for?

What about in goal. Does Shay Given get the nod or will it be Packie Bonner who gets the number one shirt?

All eyes are on France as Martin O’Neill leads Ireland into Euro 2016. Sweden, Belgium and Italy await the Boys In Green as Ireland look to banish the memories of Poland four years ago.

Of our five tournament appearances since the heady days of Euro 88, the Polish nightmare is the only one that failed to deliver a historic result.

Ray Houghton’s delicious header against England in Stuttgart in 1988 put Irish football on the map at major tournaments and since then we have witnessed the Boys In Green go all the way to the quarter-final of the World Cup in 1990, stun the mighty Italy at USA 94 and snatch a last-gasp draw against the Germans in the 2002 World Cup.

There have been many heroes and iconic moments along the way and no shortage of talented players. We are looking to form Ireland’s ultimate tournament team.

Between now and the big kick off in Paris on June 13, when Ireland take on Sweden, we will be asking you to vote on who you think should get the nod in each position to create Ireland’s ultimate tournament team. Players will be chosen from the five tournaments Ireland have been involved in, including the qualifiers and it's a straight 4-4-2 formation.
