A wild back and forth day in Euro 2016 has seen the last 16 permutations all but decided.

All that's left for Ireland is to discover their fate - either they beat Italy and make the second round or they are heading home.

Despite amassing just one point from their first two games, Martin O'Neill's men are still in the hunt for one of the four best third place spots, which would see the team progress to the last 16.

Here is why tonight's shock result has changed Euro 2016 - and how it could benefit the smaller teams

However, if they do win in Lille tonight, the host team await them on Sunday in Lyon. Ireland would face France, with the winner playing either England or Iceland in the quarter-final.

Roy Hodgson's men had been set to face Portugal in the second round after Cristiano Ronaldo's men drew 3-3 with Hungary, but a late Iceland winner saw them beat Austria 2-1 and pip their group rivals to second place in Group F.

Here is the second round draw as it stands.

Euro 2016 draw:

Switzerland v Poland

Croatia v Portugal

Wales v 3rd place (C/D - Northern Ireland if Ireland beat Italy, Turkey if they don't)

Hungary v Runners up Group E

Germany v Slovakia

Italy v Spain

France v 3rd place (C/E - Ireland if they win, Northern Ireland if they don't)

England v Iceland
