Pride. Joy. Excitement.

You could bet a large amount of money that those three emotions were prevalent in every single Irish fan on the planet last night after Martin O'Neill's men pulled off a sensational 1-0 win over Italy for their biggest major tournament victory since 1994.

It was a night where the 'proud to be Irish' cliché really rang true as not only did the players give everything, but the fans in the stand were equally committed to roaring the team on to a historic achievement.

In the aftermath, the players were positively beaming, and what's more, you could tell that there is a real sense of togetherness in the group.

If the post-match celebrations were reminiscent of the win against world champions Germany last year, so too was the players' reaction.

A huge number of the Ireland squad took to social media to share very patriotic and emotional messages of thanks and elation after what was one of Irish football's greatest nights.
