Kevin Doyle: I found out I wasn't in Euro squad on the news
Kevin Doyle has revealed he found out he wasn't in the Ireland squad for Euro 2016 on the news.
Republic of Ireland striker Doyle made the revelations in his first column in this weekend's Sunday World newspaper.
Doyle was one of a handful of names left out of the final Euro 2016 squad by Ireland boss Martin O'Neill last Tuesday, with the chaotic nature of the squad selection leaving the Colorado Rapids striker a little frustrated.
Doyle also wrote about how he had "packed his bags and kissed his family goodbye" ahead of Ireland's friendly with Holland before he was pulled from the squad at the last nimute.
"In the end, I found out who was in the squad by watching the news as it was confirmed like everyone else and it certainly added drama to proceedings," Doyle wrote.
“I don’t think there were any great shocks in the final panel that was confirmed just before the deadline on Tuesday, so the squad could have been announced earlier and those of us who missed out placed on standby in case of injuries.
“Every manager does things differently, it’s a tough job that never pleases everybody and this manager sees this as a way of keeping people on their toes.”
Doyle will be writing for the Sunday World throughout Euro 2016.
