Irish fans were probably planning to hold a grudge against French striker Antoine Griezmann for years to come after his brace knocked Martin O'Neill's men out of Euro 2016, but it will be hard to maintain that anger after watching this video.

The fear of terrorist acts being committed in France during the tournament have largely gone unfounded, with high security levels ensuring violent incidents have been kept to a minimum.

However, June 13 saw probably the tournament's lowest point after French police officer Jean-Baptiste Salvaing and his parter were stabbed to death at their home just outside Paris.

A video has circulated online of French goal hero Griezmann giving the match ball to a young boy after the Ireland game, and the French police Twitter account has confirmed that the child is the son of the deceased Salvaing.

A brilliant gesture from Griezmann that will hopefully ease the youngster's suffering in a small way.
