While fortunes on the pitch for Martin O’Neill and co have fluctuated, the love bestowed upon the Irish fans since arriving in France has not wavered once, and it’s been no different in Lille.

Should Ireland fail to beat Italy in Lille this evening, their brief Euros odyssey will come to an abrupt end. But the spirits of those who travelled to support them remains high and they’re enjoying a rare old time of it in Lille.

Much like in Paris and Bordeaux, the Boys and Girls in Green have endeared themselves to the locals, who have taken to social media to express their affection for the merry guests.

For those who have forgotten their leaving cert French, we've extracted and translated some of the better posts.

"Lille is Ireland today, and I can't wait for tonight". How touching.

"The best goal of Euro 2016 has been scored....by a drunk Irish horse." Sounds about right.

"The Irish put so much happiness and joy in Lille" Ahhh.

" I love the Irish on tour in Lille, they're on fire" So nice.
