England game postponed
England's World Cup qualifier against Poland scheduled for Warsaw last night was postponed amid comical scenes because the pitch was waterlogged. The game will now be played today, with a 4.0pm (Irish time) kick-off.
Heavy rain had been falling in the Polish capital for most of the day but no agreement could be reached between the teams to close the roof on the stadium.
Referee Gianluca Rocci inspected the pitch at 8.0 when the match was due to start and it seemed then that the cause was hopeless.
However, such was FIFA's desperation for the match to go ahead, it was decided to wait another 45 minutes before they made the final decision.
