England Czech out of Euros
England pack up familiar troubles in their old kitbags this morning, checking out early from another tournament. Just when Danny Welbeck seemed to have sent England through to the semis, Jan Chramosta equalised and then Tomas Pekhart rubbed salt into the wounds to give the Czechs a 2-1 victory.
All the old flaws, the lack of invention and failure to keep the ball, were seen again. It was just like watching the seniors. And so the usual England inquests begin.
Welbeck looked to have sent England through, sending a bullet header home from Daniel Sturridge's pinpoint cross.
England looked like holding out but disaster struck in the 90th minute when Marcel Gecov was allowed to carry the ball into the box and his cross took a wicked deflection off Welbeck, allowing Chrasmosta to lift the ball over Fielding.
England might have had a stoppage-time penalty when Sturridge was brought down but the flag was already up for offside. And their misery was complete with the final kick of the game when another substitute, Pekhart, converted Chramosta's cross.
