Doyle hungry to stay on goal trail

Relieved Kevin Doyle hopes that he has turned the corner after ending a barren spell with a brace in Wolves' 2-2 draw with Bolton on Tuesday night, wries Daniel McDonnell.

The Wexford native had gone eight games without a goal before striking twice in the first half of the Championship encounter, and admitted that the drought was starting to get him down.

Still, a return to form for Doyle is most welcome. Boss Stale Solbakken came out in defence of his striker ahead of the Bolton game, and he responded with his first double since March 2011.

"It was a huge relief -- it was starting to really hack me off," said Doyle with regard to his recent scoring record.

"But the good thing was I was at least getting chances. I'd hit the post a couple of times and the bar and last Saturday, one was cleared off the line where the fella didn't even know about it. Thankfully, on Tuesday night, they went in."
