ROBBIE KEANE's return to form continued as he teamed up with David Beckham to fire LA Galaxy past the Portland Timbers on Saturday night.

The Ireland captain and the former England skipper each netted twice as the MLS champions gained further ground in the race for the play-offs with a 5-3 win.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd fired the north-western side ahead in front of a partisan Portland crowd, but Galaxy's designated stars combined to score four goals in nine minutes. Beckham levelled with a 30-yard screamer, before sending a fine free-kick past Troy Perkins.

Landon Donovan got the Galaxy's third from the penalty spot, before he set up Keane with a perfectly angled, low cross that left the Tallaght native with a tap-in.

Kosuke Kimura pulled one back before half-time, before a deft Keane finish secured the points for Galaxy. Boyd netted a late free-kick consolation for the Timbers.
