City to lose out on Silva
MANCHESTER CITY are bracing themselves for being beaten to the signing of Valencia forward David Silva by Real Madrid.
Although preliminary discussions have taken place about the 24-year-old's availability, senior figures at City have now been made aware that Silva's destination of choice, should he leave Valencia, would be Real Madrid. It is likely that the club will now focus efforts on securing a post-World Cup deal for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner.
Maicon, the Inter Milan defender, has ruled out a move to Eastlands after he insisted that he was only interested in joining Real Madrid. "I'm going to say it very clearly so there is no misunder-standing: I want to play with Madrid, I don't want to go to Manchester City," he said.
Avram Grant, meanwhile, was yesterday confirmed as West Ham manager.
