Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a peculiar figure. He is a man with so much bravado that his autobiography is not entirely dissimilar to Rik Mayall’s spoof memoir, Bigger than Hitler, Better than Christ.
When Sweden lost their 2014 World Cup qualifying playoff to Portugal, the striker famously declared: “A World Cup without me is nothing to watch.” If his mother told him he was special during his formative years then Zlatan certainly took heed.
From 2009 to 2010, the Swedish icon played for Barcelona so you might imagine he’d fancy watching his old pals taking part in the Champions League final on Saturday night. Or maybe just because he has a passing interest in football. Apparently not.
Like Stephen Fry when he didn’t get invited to the royal wedding and spent his afternoon tweeting about the snooker as if to prove he didn’t mind missing out but achieving the exact opposite effect, Ibrahimovic posted photos of himself climbing mountains in Sweden to Instagram on the weekend.
Hopefully he enjoyed the day and managed not to focus on the fact that he still hasn’t won the Champions League.
