Tottenham have been training like "animals" for Saturday's Champions League final with Liverpool, according to Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian says Spurs have been working at full intensity for the past two weeks to be ready.

"In the last couple of weeks, we've been trying like animals," he said.

"We're trying to give our best every day - that is the way we need to work to be in our best state for the final.

"Everybody wants to be there, to be involved and give their best, and the final is not going to start Saturday - it started two weeks ago."

A Champions League final against a domestic rival is familiar territory for Alderweireld. Five years ago at Atletico Madrid he was involved in a European showpiece against a domestic rival.

"We were so close to winning it," recalls Alderweireld of the Real v Atletico showdown.

Real equalised in injury-time, just 10 minutes after Alderweireld had come off the bench, and Diego Simeone's men were eventually beaten 4-1 in extra time.

"The feeling of losing is very hard. I will take this feeling to the final and show I want it more than anyone else," he said.

However, he has not brought up any painful memories of 2014 to his team-mates.

"I think we have quite a mature group, so I don't have to talk too much. A lot of players have played in really big games, World Cups and stuff like this, so we know what to do," he added. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
