In terms of pricking someone's bubble, Sky TV reporter Geoff Shreeves' revelation to Branislav Ivanovic that his yellow card would rule him out of the Champions League final in Munich was about as subtle as a John Terry knee in the backside.
The Serb defender was celebrating Chelsea's amazing feat in the post-match interviews when Shreeves delivered his bombshell.
At first Ivanovic turned to Ashley Cole as if to seek reassurances, for his team-mate to tell him it wasn't so, but when the awful truth finally sank in Ivanovic briefly swallowed. His mind scrambled, emotion was surely going to pour out.
The joke doing the rounds last night was that Shreeves's Jeremy Kyle-style questioning was akin to the reporter queuing up outside his local primary school to tell the kids their goldfish has died.
Shreeves' tough tackle was soon the top trending topic on Twitter. Golfer Lee Westwood even got in on the act, joking that Shreeves had just been in touch with equally heart-breaking, though factually correct news.
Raul Meireles, Terry and Ramires will also miss the the final after all being booked. Bayern Munich, who face Real Madrid in the other semi-final, have seven players one yellow card away from suspension.
