'They are a good outside bet' - RTÉ panel hail 'outstanding' Liverpool after dominant Champions League win
Eamon Dunphy hailed Liverpool's 'outstanding' display after Jurgen Klopp's men beat Porto 5-0 away from home in the Champions League last 16 first leg tonight.
A Sadio Mane hat-trick and further goals from Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino put the Reds in a great position heading into the second leg, and speaking on RTÉ's coverage of the game, Dunphy was full of praise for Liverpool.
"It was a great performance from a lot of players, and collectively," Dunphy said.
"Mane with a hat-trick, Milner was really good, Firmino was really good, Salah was amazing. To see a Premier League club go there and do that, when you put it together with Spurs against Juventus - we used to sit here for years until recently saying 'the Premier League is overrated, and over-hyped' but now two nights back-to-back, we have had outstanding performances. That was an outstanding performance by Liverpool."
Richie Sadlier was similarly impressed.
"It was a thoroughly dominant performance," Sadlier said.
"You can imagine the level of confidence in that dressing room. We discussed beforehand the merits of Klopp's comments that beating Man City made them a contender to win the Champions League, but winning away from home in the knockout stages so thoroughly, that dressing room must be a nice place to be tonight."
Dunphy was reluctant to tip Liverpool to go on and win the competition, citing their defensive frailties, but Liam Brady was a bit more confident.
"They are a good outside bet," he said.
