Rampant Schalke stun Inter

Inter Milan 2
Schalke 5

Holders Inter look to be heading out of the Champions League following a humiliating first-leg defeat to German underdogs Schalke at the San Siro.

The hosts went ahead in the first minute, Dejan Stankovic volleying in a sensational goal from near the half-way line after Manuel Neuer had raced out of his area to head away a through-ball.

Schalke equalised when Joel Matip fired in the rebound after Julio Cesar had saved Kyriakos Papadopoulos' header from a corner.

Inter went back in front as Diego Milito smashed home Eseban Cambiasso's knock-down.

But five minutes before the break, the Germans were level again as Edu broke through and beat Cesar at the second attempt.

Early in the second half, Raul bagged his 70th Champions League goal to make it 3-2 and, after Inter's Christian Chivu was sent off, Andrea Ranocchia's own goal put Schalke in dreamland.

Edu completed Inter's misery late on with his second goal of an amazing match.
