Paul Pogba injury confirmed by Jose Mourinho as Manchester United midfielder leaves on crutches
Jose Mourinho confirmed that Paul Pogba suffered a hamstring injury during Manchester United's 3-0 victory over FC Basel after the midfielder was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches.
Pogba, who began the night captaining United for the first time, was forced off in the 19th minute of United’s Champions League group stage opener after pulling up awkwardly.
The 24-year-old was replaced by Marouane Fellaini, who proceeded to open the scoring before Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford added to the hosts’ tally.
While Mourinho could not comment on the severity of the midfielder’s injury, he is certain that it is a hamstring injury.
“I don't know honestly. By experience, by looking at feeling it, it is a hamstring. Big, small I don't know but a hamstring for sure.”
Pogba’s injury proved to be the one low point of United’s evening, with his team-mates enjoying a comfortable night’s work against the Swiss champions.
“Three important points, first match at home, now we finish at home too,” Mourinho said after the victory.
“It gives us a chance to play here in the last match in case we need the points to qualify but in between we have difficult matches away from home but to start with three points at home is always good.”
