Gianluigi Buffon one of three nominees for UEFA Player of the Year as Zlatan cracks top 10
Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has found himself in exalted company in the twilight of his career after making the three-man shortlist for UEFA Player of the Year.
It is a testament to the season enjoyed by the 39-year-old that he has been chosen alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as one of the three best players in Europe. Buffon won a domestic double with Juventus last season, and also played in the Champions League final, where the Italian giants were defeated by Real Madrid.
Ronaldo remains the favourite to scoop the top prize, after scoring two goals in the decider against Juventus as Madrid collected their third European crown in four seasons.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only player based in England to get selected in the top ten, grabbing the last place on the list after his impressive season with Manchester United
