After a year away from Europe's premier competition, Manchester United are back and will have PSV, CSKA and Wolfsburg for company in the group stages.
Coach: Phillip Cocu
Star turn: Luuk de Jong
One of the weakest teams in Pot 1 of the group stage draw following a revamp in their seedings procedure, the Dutch champions have been hit by the exit of some key players this summer, with Manchester United signing Memphis Depay and Newcastle buying their key midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Coach: Leonid Slutkey
Star turn: Alan Dzagoev
This experienced team of Champions League performers will be a tricky nut to crack on home soil. CSKA coach Slutkey is currently doubling as Russia national team boss in their Euro 2016 qualifying push.
Coach: Dieter Hecking
Star turn: Julian Draxler
The loss of Kevin De Bruyne in the final days of the transfer window was a hammer blow to Wolfsburg, but the signing of Julian Draxler from Schalke softened the blow and they were among the most dangerous of the sides lurking among the pot of fourth seeds.
Jurgen Klopp is the favourite with bookmakers to replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, and according to former Anfield favourite Dietmar Hamann, the former Borussia Dortmund manager would be "perfect" for the role.
