Celtic look to hijack Keane’s proposed loan move to Villa

CELTIC want to hijack Robbie Keane's proposed loan move from LA Galaxy to Aston Villa.

The Irish skipper is ready to perform a U-turn and make a two-month switch to the Premier League -- having previously stated that he would stay in Los Angeles for the US pre-season.

However, Villa are in talks with Galaxy about capturing Keane on a loan deal. His Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan will be lining out for Everton until March on a similar arrangement.

The development has alerted the interest of Celtic, where Keane enjoyed a successful loan spell two years ago.

Yet Villa believe that the Irish skipper's preference is for a stint in the English Midlands, where he would link up with good friends Richard Dunne and Shay Given.

In the short term, the 31-year-old is scheduled to train with his former club, Tottenham, until January 20.

Keane had indicated that kicking off his season in March would leave him fresh going into the Euro 2012 finals in June, but he now appears to be leaning towards a Premier League cameo to start the countdown to the summer.

Villa would have to agree a loan fee with LA Galaxy, in addition to completing an insurance deal to secure Keane's services.
