Bradford are penalty shoot-out kings following ninth win in a row

Bradford have become the penalty shoot-out kings of British football after winning their ninth successive spot-kick showdown.

The npower League Two side pulled off one of the greatest cup shocks of modern times when they defeated Arsenal 3-2 on penalties in a quarter-final of the Capital One Cup at Valley Parade last night.

Here we look at the Bantams' remarkable run of success from the penalty spot.

December 11, 2012 - Capital One Cup quarter final Bradford 1 Arsenal 1 (Bradford win 3-2 on pens)

An 88th-minute minute equaliser from Thomas Vermaelen after Garry Thompson's early opener forces extra time and the penalties. Nathan Doyle, Gary Jones and Alan Connell all beat Wojciech Szczesny, whilst for the Gunners, Santi Cazorla is denied by Matt Duke, with Marouane Chamakh and captain Vermaelen both striking a post.

November 13, 2012 - FA Cup first round Bradford 3 Northampton 3 (Bradford win 4-2 on pens)

Carl McHugh's 120th-minute equaliser keeps Bradford's hopes alive. Nahki Wells has the first penalty saved, but Jones, Will Atkinson, Stephen Darby and Ricky Ravenhill all convert as Danny East and Kelvin Langmead miss for Town.

October 30, 2012 - Capital One Cup fourth round Wigan 0 Bradford 0 (Bradford win 4-2 on pens)

Duke is the Bantams hero, saving the final penalty from Jordi Gomez to give City the win after Shaun Maloney had missed Wigan's third. Doyle, Jones, Darby and Connell are all on target for manager Phil Parkinson's side.

October 9, 2012 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Hartlepool 0 Bradford 0 (Bradford win 3-2 on pens)

Thompson fails with the first penalty after a goalless 90 minutes before Doyle, Wells and Connell score. Although Andrew Davies fails to seal it as Scott Flinders saves, Evan Horwood misses for the home side to see City through.

November 8, 2011 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Sheffield United 1 Bradford 1 (Bradford win 6-5 on pens)

Sixteen penalties are required overall before this one is settled in City's favour. Bradford goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin makes three saves, including the decisive one from Erik Tonne.

October 4, 2011 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Huddersfield 2 Bradford 2 (Bradford win 4-3 on pens)

After Michael Flynn misses City's first, Duke saves Town's second from Tommy Miller. Mark Stewart, Kyel Reid and Robbie Threlfall then edge the visitors in front after a miss from Antony Kay before Nialle Rodney clinches it.

August 30, 2011 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Bradford 0 Sheffield Wednesday 0 (Bradford win 3-1 on pens)

City only need three penalties converted by Ritchie Jones, Michael Flynn and Ross Hannah as Clinton Morrison misses for the Owls, whilst Oscar Jansson saves from Liam Palmer and Chris Sedgwick.

November 10, 2009 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Bradford 2 Port Vale 2 (Bradford win 5-4 on pens)

In another marathon shoot-out, Steve Williams scores the 14th and final penalty to send Bradford through after goalkeeper Simon Eastwood had saved three from Louis Dodds, Kris Taylor and Adam Yates.

October 6, 2009 - Johnstone's Paint Trophy Bradford 2 Notts County 2 (Bradford win 3-2 on pens)

Chris Brandon scores in the 90th minute to set up penalties, and again Eastwood shines, saving two, including the final one from visiting goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel after Peter Thorne, Simon Ramsden and James O'Brien score.
