March 1995 Fails a drug test while a teenager at Charlton. Bowyer is banned by the club for eight weeks and dropped from the England U-18 squad. "It was horrible but I'd made a mistake and I had to pay for it, didn't I?" he said at the time. December 1996 Convicted for affray after an incident at a McDonald's restaurant. Bowyer is fined £4,500 after throwing chairs across the room in an act that was described as "disgraceful" by a magistrate.

<li>2000 Charged with GBH and affray along with Jonathan Woodgate after an Asian student was injured outside a Leeds nightclub. Bowyer was cleared but paid £170,000 in an out-of-court settlement.</li>

<li>April 2005 Handed a seven-match ban and fined £30,000 by the FA for an on-pitch brawl with Newcastle team-mate Kieron Dyer. Later he is fined £600 by magistrates for the same incident.</li>

<li>September 2010 Forced to apologise after branding West Brom fan and grandmother Sandra Cox a "f***ing c***". Bowyer had been substituted after a rash challenge on Gabriel Tamas and responded to jeers by launching a verbal assault on Mrs Cox. </li>

Replays showed Bowyer appearing to stamp on the knee of Bacary Sagna as he lay on the ground, while he was also shown apparently catching Sagna down the back of his Achilles in a separate incident.
