Away goal keeps St Pat's in with a shout in tight Euro tie

Shakhter Karagandy 2 St Patrick's Athletic 1

David McMillan scored a vital away goal for St Pat’s in their away Euro tie in Kazakhstan today.

The goal gives them a decent chance of overturning this two-leg tie in next Thursday’s Europa League return bout in Richmond Park.

Shakhter were the better team in the first 45 minutes, but St Pat’s nearly scored when central defender Evan McMillan whacked a header off the post.

Shakhter took the lead on 52 minute when Zhambyi Kukeyev put over a corner and defender Nikola Vasiljevic scored from close range.

But St Pat's rallied and pulled one back on 79 minutes. A free-kick was parried by the Shakhter keeper and striker McMillan rapped in the rebound.

The home side scored a second goal late on against a tired Dublin side.

However, it's all to play for in Richmond Park itself.
