Athlone Town have confirmed that Portugese coach Ricardo Monsanto is their new manager with Colin Fortune reverting to a new role as Head Coach.

The struggling Midlanders have undergone substantial changes in recent months since receiving overseas investment into their first team squad. Frenchman Marc Fourmeaux was announced as their new director of operations last week.

They have taken full points from their opening two First Division games with a selection consisting of Irish players and a smattering of recruits from around Europe.

Monsanto and Fortune were both listed as managers on the team-sheet in a pre-season friendly but the club did not make any statement on their position until last night. That came after both men gave interviews where they indicated they were in charge.

An Athlone statement said: "Colin Fortune has assumed a new role of Head Coach and will continue to provide the sterling service. Coaches Ricardo Cravo, also from Portugal, and Gavin Drummond will play their part as part of the backroom team."
