'At the moment I am here' - Mohamed Salah insists he is happy at Liverpool amid Real Madrid links
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah has insisted he is enjoying his football and is not allowing increased speculation that he will be the subject of a bid from Real Madrid next summer to affect him.
The familiar signs are being given out by the Spanish media that suggest Real Madrid have their sights set on Salah, with well sources articles suggesting the Bernabeu giants will move to sign the Egyptian as they look to revamp their squad.
Salah's decision to speak to the Spanish newspaper Marca was always likely to fuel those rumours and while he said all the right things about his love for Liverpool, eyebrows were raised at his comments over links with Real Madrid.
“Why do you think they say these things? I don’t have much to say about that," he said when asked about a move to join the reigning European champions.
"If I have to say something, I’ll say I’m happy at Liverpool. At the moment I am here. I want to concentrate on my team and finish the season very well.
"Yes, I follow it (Spanish football), I see some games. Not always, because sometimes they coincide with Liverpool fixtures, of course. It’s a good league, has top teams, and the way they play is very attractive."
Salah claimed in other interviews given this week that he has always been a Liverpool fan and he backed up those sentiments with these comments to Marca.
"Yes, there were other teams interested (last summer), but I honestly prefer not to name them," he added. "I decided to come here and I think it was a good choice."
"It's a great club, we have fantastic players, a good team, an incredible team. I wanted to go back to England and when I had the opportunity to come to Liverpool I was very happy. And I am now.”
Salah's compliments towards Liverpool may be welcome in a season when he has emerged as one of the outstanding players in the Premier League, but don't be surprised if the Real Madrid rumours rumble on heading towards next summer's transfer window.
