Manchester UNITED are interested in signing Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez and could bid for the Spaniard in January.

Perez is also being watched by Spurs and Arsenal, but United are thought to be keenest on the 22-year-old and have been monitoring him since Newcastle paid Tenerife £1.7m for him last year.

Wolfgang NIERSBACH has resigned from his post as president of the German Football Federation amid claims that bribes were paid in a bid to land the 2006 World Cup finals.

Although Niersbach, a UEFA and FIFA executive committee member, denies any wrongdoing, he said he was taking "political responsibility" for the affair.

PATRICK VIEIRA has been appointed head coach of New York City, which is part of the City Football Group founded by Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour. The 39-year-old former Arsenal star will leave his role as head coach of Manchester City's elite development squad to take up his new role.
