FORMER Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given will not be allowed to move away from Aston Villa on loan after Hull City had a move for the 36-year-old turned down.
The Donegal man has found himself out of favour at Villa Park under Paul Lambert. He started the season as first-choice 'keeper, but poor form led to American Brad Guzan assuming the No 1 spot.
Given has three and a half years left on his contract with Villa, but his involvement has been restricted to the League Cup since September. Hull boss Steve Bruce was keen to bring him in on a short-term deal, but Lambert wants him to stay.
"If you're a goalkeeper, there's only one place for you and another guy to compete for," said Lambert. "But you're never too far from being back in."
