Arsenal v Tottenham - player ratings

Mesut Ozil starred for Arsenal against Tottenham
Mesut Ozil starred for Arsenal against Tottenham

PETR CECH: Made a handful of routine saves but rarely tested. 6

HECTOR BELLERIN: Excellent. Gave Ben Davies a torrid time down the right with his incisive runs in behind. 8

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI: Broke the deadlock with a bullet header into the top corner and made one excellent last-ditch block against Kane. 8

LAURENT KOSCIELNY: Fortunate to survive an early mix-up with Sead Kolasinac but otherwise did well to restrict Harry Kane to half-chances. 7

NACHO MONREAL: Comfortable again on the left side of the back three but allowed Eric Dier a header at the back post late on. 6

SEAD KOLASINAC: Two hairy moments. Missed an early header that allowed Kane a shot at goal and risked giving away a penalty when blocking off the striker in the second half. 5

GRANIT XHAKA: Booked in the first half for a needlessly late challenge on Dele Alli and had to be restrained thereafter. 6

AARON RAMSEY: Strong, physical, dynamic. Won his battle with Mousa Dembele before the Belgian was taken off. 8

MESUT OZIL: Provided the cross for Mustafi's goal and was warmly applauded for the occasional show of tenacity. 8

ALEXIS SANCHEZ: Slammed in Arsenal's second from close range and perhaps should have had more. Looks close to finding his best again. 8

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE: Set the tone with his tireless running up front and more than justified his start. Arsenal fans booed the decision to take him off late on. 8

FRANCIS COQUELIN (for Lacazette, 73 mins): Came on to boos although due to the decision to take off Lacazette rather than bring him on. 5

ALEX IWOBI (for Ozil, 84 mins): Added some energy in the final stages. 6

HUGO LLORIS: Might have been quicker to close down Sanchez's finish but did well to stop the Chilean adding a third late on. 6

KIERAN TRIPPIER: Struggled to get forward and put crosses into Arsenal's box but was solid in his defensive duties. 5

ERIC DIER: A sloppy pass almost cost Spurs an early goal but was better from then on. 5

DAVINSON SANCHEZ: Occasionally dodgy, occasionally superb. The youngster struggled at times with the intensity but was unfortunate to concede the free-kick that led to Mustafi's goal. 5

JAN VERTONGHEN: Failed to challenge Mustafi for Arsenal's opening goal. It proved a costly error. 4

BEN DAVIES: Regularly outnumbered down his side and was unable to contain the lively Bellerin. 4

MOUSSA SISSOKO: Started brightly but faded. Tottenham desperately miss Victor Wanyama in these types of games. 5

MOUSA DEMBELE: Usually thrives in these high-octane battles but looks still to be regaining sharpness after a disjointed season interrupted by injury. 5

DELE ALLI: Hardly made an impact. His touch was off and it was no surprise when he was substituted in the second half. 4

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN: Tried to instigate a turnaround with a handful of shots from distance but could never find the space to exert his usual influence. 6

HARRY KANE: Claimed for a penalty in the second half when blocked off by Kolasinac but it would have been soft. This was the first league game against Arsenal in which he failed to score. 6

HARRY WINKS (for Dembele, 62 mins): Offered more to Tottenham in possession than Dembele. They could have done with him from the start. 6

FERNANDO LLORENTE (for Kane, 75 mins): Replaced Kane but struggled to make an impact. 5

SON HEUNG-MIN (for Alli, 75 mins): Missed two good chances at the end from close range. Could have set up a nervy finish. 4
